Fake Message Claiming To Be From Public Health England

Updated: Apr 9, 2020

I do not like to dwell too much on the many fake and scare mongering stories doing the rounds on social media as I don't wish to give them any extra "air-time".

However, when they claim to be from health professionals and government departments they get more traction and cause more distress.

Today, a fake audio message purporting to be from a female ambulance worker with SECAMB (South East Coast Ambulance Service) has been circulating on social media. In it she claims that she has been in a meeting in which Public Health England has informed the ambulance service that the death toll is going to rise with one third of deaths in babies and children. She goes on to say that ambulances will no longer be responding to calls and people will be left at home to die. She also claims that ice rinks are being used as mortuaries throughout the UK and that we are going to be banned from leaving our houses even for essentials and our streets will be patrolled by marshals.

This entire message is a hoax.

At a time of heightened anxiety it is deplorable that some people capitalise on that fear. The fact this message has been made by an older woman has given it some credence as people tend to assume hoaxers are youngsters.

If you receive it please ignore and delete it.
